What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are very thin shells of porcelain. They are shaped and designed to look just like natural teeth, and are usually only used to cover up the front teeth.. As the name suggests, they are a “veneer” that is applied to your natural teeth to treat a wide variety of cosmetic flaws.

Because they cover up the entire front surface of the tooth, they can be used to treat pretty much any cosmetic flaws that may affect your smile. Veneers are routinely used to treat stained teeth, chipped teeth, gaps between the teeth, uneven or misshapen teeth, and much more.

The versatility of veneers is one of the reasons why they are so popular among patients who to improve the appearance of their smiles. In addition to this, they are also the longest-lasting method of cosmetic dentistry treatment, with a lifespan of up to 10-20 years depending on your unique situation and how well you care for your teeth.

HOW DO VENEERS WORK?

Veneers work by replacing the front surfaces of your teeth. To begin the process, Dr. Packard has to trim away a small amount of enamel from the teeth. This ensures the veneers don’t add extra bulk to your teeth or interfere with your bite.

Then, he takes impressions and molds of your teeth. This information is sent to a dental lab. This lab uses advanced modeling techniques and tools to create veneers that will fit perfectly over your existing teeth and improve your smile.

Once the design of your veneers is finalized, they will be crafted from tooth-colored porcelain and sent back to Precision Dental. You’ll come back for your last appointment, where Dr. Packard will check the fit of these veneers, then bond them into place permanently.

HOW MUCH DO VENEERS COST?

Since veneers cover a variety of cosmetic issues, the cost depends on the extremity of the case and can vary. At Precision Dental, we offer resources for our patients to make sure that your dental care stays within your budget. We are committed to providing compassionate care in Bowling Green, and part of our service is making sure that money never comes between our patients and their dental health.

ARE VENEERS THE RIGHT COSMETIC OPTION FOR ME?

Veneers are a popular cosmetic option because they can cover such a wide variety of cosmetic issues. If you are dealing with chipped, stained, misaligned, worn down, uneven or abnormally spaced teeth, this permanent option may be right for you. Because the procedure is minimally invasive, this treatment is good for patients who may be afraid of dental surgery or needles. Call us today to set up a consultation with Dr. Packard!

ARE Veneers safe? Yes!

Veneers are very safe, and have no serious side effects or complications. After your teeth are trimmed and your veneers have been placed, you may experience some minor tooth sensitivity. However, this is not a serious issue, and it will fade over time as you get used to your new veneers. Dr. Bryan Packard is experienced in the placement of veneers, and can ensure that the entire process goes smoothly.

Can veneers be removed?

No. Veneers are not designed to be removed at any point. For all intents and purposes, this cosmetic treatment is irreversible and should be considered to be permanent. You will need to continue wearing your veneers for the rest of your life.

This is due to the fact that some of your natural enamel must be removed when preparing for veneers. Dr. Packard will usually need to remove about 0.5mm-0.7mm of enamel from each tooth that is getting a veneer. This is done to provide the veneer with a strong, clean surface on which it can be attached, and to ensure that the veneers do not add any excess bulk to your teeth, which could affect how your bite fits together.

Once your veneers have been attached to your teeth, your smile will be just as strong as it was before your teeth were trimmed. However, if you were to remove your veneers, your teeth would be much weaker. Your enamel would be much thinner, and more susceptible to tooth decay and damage.

For this reason, you should only commit to getting veneers if you’re comfortable with wearing them for the rest of your life. If any of your veneers are damaged or break, they will need to be replaced and restored to maintain your oral health. If you don’t like the idea of permanent cosmetic treatment, an alternative to veneers like dental bonding may be a better option for you.

How are Veneers made?

The process starts with a consultation at Precision Dental in Bowling Green. Your teeth will be trimmed to accommodate your veneers. Then, Dr. Bryan Packard will take impressions of your teeth using dental putty. These impressions, along with a smile mockup, notes about your case, and other information will be sent to a dental lab. At this lab, your veneers will be made by a qualified, experienced technician.

The technician will create a series of molds shaped like your natural teeth, which are designed to create a wafer-thin shell of porcelain that fits over your teeth perfectly, and restores their shape and color. Once the molds have been built, they will be filled with a ceramic porcelain material, which will set into the final shape of your veneers.

Your veneers will usually be sent to our office within 2-3 weeks of your first appointment at our office. Then, Dr. Bryan Packard will check the fit and finish of your veneers to make sure they look perfect. If everything looks good, your veneers will be attached right away.

Note that in some cases, you may need to have a set of wax or plastic veneers made first, so that they can be tried on in our office. Then, we can make adjustments and finalize the design, and create your final set of porcelain veneers.

Does It Hurt To Get Veneers?

Not at all! While a thin layer of enamel must be removed from your teeth in order to make room for veneers, this will not hurt at all. Before Dr. Packard begins removing enamel, he will use a numbing spray and numbing injections to completely numb the treatment area.

After a few minutes, you won’t be able to feel anything near the veneer treatment site, and Dr. Packard can remove the necessary enamel quickly and efficiently. However, if you’re nervous about the procedure, we can also provide you with sedation dentistry in Bowling Green.

We offer minimal laughing gas sedation, which wears off after just a few minutes, as well as deeper oral sedation. Laughing gas sedation is usually recommended for veneers, since the treatment is minimally invasive. But before your appointment at Precision Dental, Dr. Packard can discuss your options and which type of sedation may be right for you in Bowling Green.

After your teeth are trimmed and your temporary veneers are placed, you may experience a little bit of sensitivity, but you should not feel any pain. And once your permanent porcelain veneers are attached to your teeth, you will not feel any discomfort at all.
