Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in the last decade. This usually refers to any dental procedure that improves the patient’s appearance. The most common cosmetic dental procedure is whitening, or “tooth bleaching”. Other cosmetic procedures include bonding, veneers, crowns, bridges and crown lengthening.

Bonding is a process in which a “tooth colored” material known as composite is applied to the tooth surface. Bonding is used to replace a portion of the tooth or cover a defect in the tooth.

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are directly bonded to the front of the tooth. Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory.

Crowns, also known as “caps”, cover the tooth above the gum line.

Bridges are false teeth that replace one or more missing teeth.

Crown lengthening

Crown lengthening is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the tissue and raises the gum line to create the appearance of longer, more symmetrical teeth.
